R. I. P.

"Alas, poor MacBook, I used it well Horatio..."Well, in all fairness, it's likely just the charger that is having issues. The computer itself was working quite well, but the charger stopped delivering juice, so the night before last the battery hit 1% and it shut itself down. There's a light on the mag-connector portion of the "MagSafe charger", and it usually glows either red or green when the charger is plugged in, depending on the charge state of the battery. Now, though, it blinks green instead of glowing solidly. Now, that is pretty clearly an intentional design feature included for diagnostics (unless there's some funky capacitance issue going on), but is there information about it online? Not that I can find. So my laptop - which was running WoW rather well to get me through the days of recuperation and which I purchased specifically to entertain me during travel and stays away from home - is now just so much dead weight until I get home and take the bits into an Apple store to get them checked out.Oh, and hopefully the fact that I look less like my ID than ever before won't prove to be a problem. :-(

You're still playing WOW?

I started up again a bit. Got my Druid on Feathermoon up a few levels over a couple days too. I had been toying with the idea for a while, and I downloaded the WoW client onto my MacBook while I was here as a way to kill time during the day while Charley and Ben are at work. I'm interested in the BC expansion too, and since ms_apocalycious is playing, well...

Those are all good reasons. I have the deluxe edition of the expansion right now, but i'm having fun in SL. Plus Janna actually plays! And I'm thinking of holding onto the special edition and ebaying it when the prices go up.The original SE hit $400 on ebay.

Is the deluxe edition the same as the collector's edition? If so, is it worth it? I tend to buy collector's editions, but I'm so uncertain about how much time I'll spend playing it that I'm not quite confident that it is a good investment this time.

It has a lot of "stuff" in it like art books, trading cards, and that sort of thing. I bought it because I"m a pet freak and it has a whelpling that follows you around. I have one tiny red whelpling on my shaman, but since then I've probably killed 5 or 6 thousand of the drakelings without a drop. I bring all my characters there around the late 20s and stay until the whelplings turn grey. They are no longer available I'm pretty sure. I saw them going for $120+ on ebay. Not sure how well they're actually selling.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NdewsciO0S4&mode=related&search=http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303566I'd check the connector and the battery. Apparently, some machines that weren't part of the battery recall are still getting "swollen" batteries. Also, the pins on the connector can get tweaked and might need some fiddling.

Sorry to hear about the way your macbook has suddenly undergone the conversion to "dead-weight" after having been a "useful and fun distraction" --Is that a from of modern day alchemy? (I'm a smart ass I know ;-) )I don't envy you the hassle you may get when you present your ID to these people. At the same time; congratulations(!) I can't wait to see pics of how you've healed up so far.

Thanks for the tips. The video seems to show blinking between red and green, while mine is blinking green on and off, but that's still a definite possibility. I would think that they'd have stop-shipped all of the bad parts long before I got my MacBook (it's one of the newest Intel Core 2 Duo models), but perhaps not. I did check the connectors on the battery, the battery compartment and both sides of the MagSafe connection - including the pins at the end of the cord - and everything seems to be fine there. I'm pretty sure I purchased the extended service thingy, so I should be able to get it fixed easily once I get back into town. As long as they believe me when I say that I'm the one that bought it. ;-)

Yeah... it's the modern day equivalent of transmuting gold into lead, and is about as useful now as it ever was. :-(I don't know how much of a hassle the TSA will be... I'm almost worried that they won't give me a second look, as odd as that may sound. With my chin and jaw swollen for the next half year or so, I don't look much different there, so the only really significant changes right now are the nose, forehead and lovely frankenstein scar. Of course, I was pretty far from resembling my DL picture before the surgery, so maybe this will be that final straw. :-)

I know the feeling (I showed you my ID when we were in Boston, didn't I?) and therefore I plan on getting a new ID just before I go to Boston for surgery. I figure if I clean up my eyebrows, put on a little eyeliner, and keep my hair brushed down over my forehead I'll at least look a good bit the same.

Aye, that's a good plan. I probably should've gotten a new DL before this trip, but things came together kind of helter-skelter, and I didn't make it a priority in time. Guess we'll see what happens tomorrow. :-)
